Live Performance: Blue Sky Theater

Mural by Paul Heath Mural by Paul Heath Tori Duhaime

A dance education program that happens outdoors under the blue sky - the world is your stage!

  • 30 minutes long
  • Performance is for one classroom at a time
  • Takes place adjacent to the school building outdoors (on the school premise - playground, athletic field, etc), with safe social distances between dancers and the audience
  • Students learn about contemporary dance as a dynamic and adaptable art form
  • Students learn about the healing and unifying power of the arts
  • Students learn about the resilience of our community
  • Performance content is developed in accordance with the Utah State Dance Core Curriculum
  • The dancers will follow the state and government recommendations and WILL be wearing masks at all times, at all of our education activities - for the foreseeable future! (Dancers are without masks in some of the photos on this website, but they are for nice images only.)
  • "No-contact visit" possibility: We can call and alert the school office and/or communicate with the teacher about our arrival to avoid entering the school building altogether, if that is helpful for your school and/or district rule!!

Hello students and teachers!

We all know that we face new and multiple challenges in the years ahead, and meanwhile, we are all doing our best to stay nimble, adaptable, and creative. We believe that arts education is especially crucial for a well-rounded education and well-being of students and the entire school community during this emotionally and socially taxing time. Together, we can still find ways to connect, share, problem-solve, improvise, and respond to the world surrounding us in artistic ways!

For the new school year 2020-21, we have created a new Blue Sky Theater program to fit our school’s unique needs. We will provide the students with the opportunity to have a glimpse of the professional dancer’s brilliance, feel their positive energy, and to witness the power of the arts to uplift and inspire people and their community -  all in a fun and safe outdoor format.

How can you bring Blue Sky Theater to your school?

You (classroom teacher, administrator, or principal) will provide:

  • Open space with a smooth surface adjacent to your school building preferably in the shade
  • Space size requirement - approximately 15-25 deep X 20-30 wide for the dancer’s performance area, plus enough space for your students to sit comfortably with a safe distance between each other, with or without chairs.
  • Access to a power outlet - we have an extension cable that is very, very long
  • A phone number for the final confirmation on the day of the performance, because this program is affected by extreme weather. *This program will NOT be performed indoors. In case of extreme weather, it will be rescheduled.

We Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company will provide:

  • Sound system
  • Voice amplifier
  • Weather Confirmation on the performance day from Education Director Ai Fujii Nelson 801.297.4213
  • Wonderfully talented dancers and an amazing show for your students!
