WINTER SEASON casts its gaze on the fragility and magic embodied within our presence in the environment. The performance features four dances that investigate humanity’s fascination with the physical world and the dilemmas inherent in our interactions with it.
Included on the program are:
Physalia (1977) choreographed by co-founders of the internationally acclaimed Pilobolus Dance Theater, was created exclusively for Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company and was the first work to be choreographed for another company by Pilobolus members. Watery images flow through the dance, as well as suggestions of the graceful—and sometimes absurd—creatures that move on the land and in the sea.
Snowmelt (World Premiere) choreographed by Daniel Charon. Snowmelt considers the impact of the human footprint on our fragile biosphere. Joining the Company for this raucous and vibrant world premiere will be guest dancers from the University of Utah’s School of Dance.
Super WE (2013) a duet co-choreographed by Tzveta Kassabova and Raja Feather Kelly. Super WE is a spirited movement journey that examines the relentlessness of contemporary life. Rapid and interminable, this duet engages rhythmic movement, sound, and metaphor.
You and the Space Between (2014) Back by popular demand, You and the Space Between is the perception altering work by Cuban-born Company alumnus Miguel Azcue. By utilizing a live video feed, this piece provides visuals that seem to defy gravity in a mesmerizing exploration of space and time, calling us to contemplate our connection to—or disconnection from—our own planet.
