A Story of Two Extraordinary Friends

A Story of Two Extraordinary Friends

Since 1964, Shirley Ririe and Joan Woodbury have worked tirelessly to make dance a part of public school student's lives. During the momentous 60th anniversary year (please note that this film was produced in the school year 2023-24), we created this film and the accompanying Teacher Guide for you and your students! The legacy of Shirley Ririe and Joan Woodbury has deep roots and engagement in the arts education and cultural history of Utah. The history of these rare female trailblazers in the field at the time of Company’s founding and how they continued to contribute to their community over time with their passion, artistry, and dedication, is a valuable story to share with the young generation. How two Utah children (Shirley and Joan) came to be such a powerhouse in the cultural fabric of the state, and how impactful they have been as teachers and advocates for the arts for children all over the world, will surely inspire the viewers of all ages.
