Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company presents Meet the Choreographer featuring esteemed choreographer Andrea Miller, Artistic Director of Gallim Dance from Brooklyn, New York. This special event will take place at Modern West Fine Art Gallery and will be moderated by dance scholar and academic Kate Mattingly, an assistant professor of dance at the University of Utah. Join these two amazing artists as they engage in conversation about Ms. Miller’s process, dance-making, and her perspective as a powerful voice amongst the international dance landscape. Following this conversation, there will be a short question and answer session and some light food and drinks provided by Toasters.

Andrea Miller (Founder, Artistic Director) is the artistic director of Brooklyn-based company Gallim, and has established herself as a groundbreaking artist, relentlessly in study of the deeper meanings of physical movement within the human experience. A sought-after creator and collaborator in art, film, theater, tech, and fashion, in 2017-18 Miller became the first choreographer to be named Artist in Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is also a Guggenheim Fellow and in 2018 she was featured in Forbes as a female entrepreneur and leader in the dance world.

Kate Mattingly is an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah where she teaches courses in dance history and theory. Her doctoral degree is from the University of California, Berkeley and her undergraduate degree is from Princeton University. Her articles about dance have been published in the New York Times, the Village Voice, Dance and Pointe magazines, and academic journals. Meet the Choreographer is sponsored by Nancy and Richard Potashner. A special thank you to Diane Stewart for graciously hosting this event in her gallery.
