Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company is opening company class taught by visiting Gallim Company Dancers, Haley Sung and Dan Walczak, who are here staging repertory on the company. This is a technique class for advanced/professional level dancers.

About the class: Dan Walczak and Haley Sung of internationally-renowned contemporary dance company Gallim offer a visceral class structured to harness uncompromising virtuosity through the company's distinct movement language and technical nuance. Each class begins with a warm-up focusing on developing kinetic awareness and unveiling structural dispositions. Taking an exploratory approach in what Artistic Director Andrea Miller defines as "groove," students will learn how to work with and through their bodies to deconstruct and redefine physical perception in an attempt to improve stamina and research their artistry. Class concludes with a survey of phrase work that integrates improvisation and investigation with a deep sense of rooted abandonment.

About Gallim: Brooklyn-based company Gallim celebrates elemental connections through the exploration of the human experience. Under the direction of founder, artistic director and choreographer Andrea Miller, Gallim’s international success spans the world of performing arts and cultural festivals, and includes collaborations in film, music, visual arts, and fashion.

Haley Sung is originally from South Korea, where she received Korean folk dance and ballet training at the age of eight. She earned her BFA in Dance from University of the Arts with a “Promising Artist” Scholarship in May 2017. Haley further studied dance at The Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and has performed abroad in France, Korea, Italy, and Luxembourg. Haley first joined Gallim as an apprentice in 2017 for Stone Skipping and is thrilled to continue working with the company.

Dan Walczak is based in Brooklyn, NY, and has worked with Gallim since 2008. He has been a part of multiple world premieres and has taught and set work at colleges and institutions throughout the U.S. He has performed throughout Europe and North America and has presented his own work in Jackson Hole, WY, and the Performing Arts Project where he was on faculty in 2016 and 2018. Walczak has also worked with MADBOOTS DANCE, LoudHoundMovement, and Patricia Noworol Dance Theater.
